Trusting What’s Ready to Bloom: A Week in New York

Sometimes the most profound joy comes from watching someone else step into their light.

What began as a dream — a camera, a story, a question — “What will I be remembered by?”, has now found its way to the Big Apple Film Festival in New York City. As I sat in the theater watching my daughter’s film, Through Your Eyes, unfold on the big screen, I felt a kind of awe that words can only circle. The city outside was alive with its usual rhythm — sirens, taxi horns, and laughter from people spilling out of restaurants, but inside, time seemed to pause. For a moment, everything felt both fragile and infinite.

Following the Creative Spark

As a mother, I’m in awe. As a human, I’m reminded what trust really means: to follow the creative spark, to walk (or fly) into the unknown, and to keep saying yes even when the path isn’t certain.

Watching my daughter’s work on screen, I realized that this, this act of creating and sharing is the same invitation I extend to my clients, and to myself: to trust the process, to allow the unfolding, and to let life surprise us.

Legacy, Love, and Letting Go

Through Your Eyes, written and directed by my daughter, Alexandra Hudson, is a film about legacy, love, and the lens through which we see one another. As I watched her story come alive, I thought about how often we speak of “practicing what we preach.” For me, that practice has always included letting go. Letting go of outcomes, of control, of needing to know what comes next. But in that theater seat, surrounded by strangers who were moved by her art, I realized something: sometimes practicing what we preach also means standing back and trusting what’s ready to bloom.

We plant seeds, we nurture, we guide — but there comes a moment when the work, or the child, becomes its own force. That’s when our role shifts from doing to witnessing. From effort to awe.

The Beauty of the Unexpected

This trip to New York wasn’t planned far in advance. It was a quick pivot, the kind that demands flexibility and a little courage. But that’s the very nature of novelty, the theme I’ve been writing about lately.

Science tells us that new experiences awaken the brain’s reward centers and invite growth. I felt that truth in every step along those bustling Manhattan streets. The lights, the art, the stories… all reminders that creativity lives in motion, and joy often hides in the unplanned corners of life.

Sometimes, the unfamiliar is what brings us home to ourselves.

What This Experience Taught Me

Watching my daughter’s dream take shape reminded me that joy and pride are forms of love in motion. They’re also invitations to reflect: Where am I being called to trust the unfolding? What creative spark is asking for my yes?

For each of us, there comes a moment when life invites us to step aside; not in resignation, but in reverence. And let the next generation, the next idea, or the next version of ourselves take center stage.

That, too, is part of healing and growth. It’s what makes joy sustainable: to keep saying yes even when the path isn’t clear, and to trust that something beautiful is already on its way.

Grateful, proud, and full of awe for all the unseen moments that led here. May we each continue to walk toward what lights us up, and have the courage to trust what’s ready to bloom.

Karin
